This carved chief’s throne comes from Central Africa, possibly Angola or Kongo, and belonged to a chief of the Chokwe people. The chair is put together out of several pieces and strung with skin. 15 carved figures adorn the throne, 13 in the lower area and two on the back rest. They show daily life scenes. A carved mask decorated the center of the back rest.
The throne has traces of age and use and two figures are missing their right arms. The overall dimensions are: 70.5 x 35 x 34 cm (Height x Breadth x Depth).
