The autographed letter written in 1951 (while serving as the 33rd president), to Mrs. Dean Acheson, whose husband was then Secretary of State, to present her with a drawing of her husband. The letter, charming and succinct, ends: "...That is why I like it and why I want you to have it". This framed presentation is offered with the original sales receipt, an autographed black and white Bachrach photo of Acheson,as well as numerous copies of photos and other information. According to papers that come with this lot, the artist referred to in the Truman letter was William Zorach, and the Acheson likeness referred to by Truman was published in Fortune Magazine in April, 1949, a copy of which is available with this lot. Copies of the drawing, as well as correspondence between Mrs. Acheson, the President, the Harry Truman Library, and William Zorach are also included.
