Description
Legendary Oscar Winning Costume Designer Charles Le Maire Rare Innovative Inventions & Prop Deigns Plus Wardrobe Labels - Legendary three-time Oscar© winner (and 13 Oscar© nominations) costume designer, Charles Le Maire was considered the most influential and innovative costume designer in Hollywood History. In his fifty year career he designed costumes for over 300 films including “The Seven Year Itch”, “All About Eve”, "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing", "How to Marry a Millionaire", "Miracle on 34th Street", “ “Viva Zapata”, "An Affair to Remember", “The Day The Earth Stood Still” “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “The Robe”, as well as creating original gowns for over 100 of the most famous actresses, celebrities, and the world’s Royalty and VIP’s. However his career goes all the way back to the 1920's when he was a "song-and-dance-man" in Ziegfeld's productions on Broadway, where he quickly became Ziegfeld's and Broadway's prized designer. It was in these days that he also became fascinated with functional design, especially in the cramped tiny "cages" that were used as dressing rooms for the performances. After moving to Los Angeles, and becoming the most highly respected Hollywood motion picture costume designer, he continued his passion for trying to find ways to change the design of dressing rooms, so the stars and daily actors could have everything at their disposal, and still have room to relax between takes. . His famous designs for an "all-in-one" dressing area forever changed the course of theaters, sound-stages, and homes and are still used to this day. These are the actual original Le Maire hand-drawn designs for these iconic dressing concepts. They include over 40 drawings, many in color, with his own copious handwritten notes. Also includes his designs for props and patterns for set railings, fences, facades and pillars, obviously inspired by one of his heroes, Frank Lloyd Wright. Many of these classic set designs and props can be seen in his productions, including "The Robe" and its sequel "Demetrius and the Gladiators". As an extra bonus is a full box (approx 500) of his original woven "Charles Le Maire" labels that graced his creations made for his own clothing company's prestigious wardrobe collections. The drawings are all individual protected in clear protective sleeves, and set into his own custom made portfolio to insure their lasting mint condition.
