Description
ADMIRAL LORD NELSON: Naval spy glass & ship's bucket believed to have been gifted by Lord Nelson to his cabin boy, William Cook, who had served under Nelson & saw action at the Battle of Trafalgar. Cook was later sentenced to convict transportation, arriving in the Colony of New South Wales in August 1820 aboard "The Mangles".
Provenance: By direct family descent. Cook later became an accomplished cabinet maker. An example of his work, an Australian inlaid sample wood table (believed to have been a copy of one of Nelson's on board tables) was auctioned at Mossgreen, Melbourne June 2014 Lot 293, selling for $18,300.
