The present lithograph in colors is the work of the Spanish artist Eduardo Arroyo (born 1937), and portrays the most important proponent of modern literature: James Joyce (1882-1941). Joyce's works influenced numerous writers, musicians, and artists. Arroyo has depicted the famous writer by using his characteristic reduced and ironic imagery.
The sheet is number 82 of 140 signed and numbered copies (+ 10 AP and 10 HC). It is signed and dated ‘Arroyo 1992’ lower right and numbered ‘82/140’ lower left. The work is in good condition with slight wear. The dimensions are 50 x 65 cm.
Eduardo Arroyo (born 1937)
Born in Madrid, Eduardo Arroyo (born 1937) studied art in his hometown. In 1958, he went to Paris as an opponent of the Franco regime. He made ??friends with the artists Gilles Aillaud and Joan Miró. Stylistically, Arroyo’s works show the influence of the ‘Nouvelle Figuration’ and the Pop art. Mostly, they do not depict perspectives and spatial depth and have ironic and colorful contents. Arroyo has also become known for his stage and costume designs. He designed numerous theaters, among others, the stage at the Schaubühne at the Lehniner Platz in Berlin. Arroyo took part in the documenta in 1977, and the Venice Biennale in 1995. His works are displayed in numerous collections, for example at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the MoMA in New York, and the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. (cko)
