Each mixing media in this portfolio is vertically divided into two halves by a fold. The artist has left one half of the sheet plain, while the other half is almost filled with amorphous geometric shapes. The artist draws lines in pencil over screen-printed forms of color and collaged them with geometrical elements. A moving, active side is thus contrasted by a meditative side, typical for the artist’s works in the 1960s. Each sheet is placed loose between a covering plastic foil and a strong black cardboard.

Each sheet is signed, dated and numbered ‘Micus 67 17/30’, three on the lower right and three on the lower left. Additionally there is a title sheet and a justification sheet, numbered in pencil ‘17‘. The sheets are contained in a white cardboard box. The portfolio was published in 1967 in the Edition Plus, Baden-Baden. The cardboard box and the title sheet show distinct signs of use and age. All six mixed media are in very good condition. The box measures 35.7 x 49.5 x 4cm, each sheet measures 34.5 x 48.5cm.

Eduard Micus (1925-2000)

Eduard Micus was born in 1925 in Hoexter. The woodcutter Reinhard Schmid Hagen sparked his interest in art. From 1948 to 1952 Micus studied under Willi Baumeister at the Art Academy in Stuttgart. He began to part his paintings into two halves, first by a line, later on with a seam in the canvas. From 1982 on Micus designed paper collages on canvas, with which he explored the disintegration of panel painting, in 1989, he then dealt with woodwork and material images. (fea)
