The complete portfolio at hand originates from the artist Abraham Palukst (1895-1926), who was born in Lithuania and who created this portfolio in the year 1922. Part of the portfolio are eight dry point etchings on laid paper, who according to their titles depict ‘The Dying Man’ (Gross/Turner 35), ‘Despair’ (Gross/Turner 37), ‘Entertainment’ (Gross/Turner 39), ‘The Drunk’ (Gross/Turner 40), ‘In Expectation of the Judgement’ (Gross/Turner 49), ‘After the Judgement’ (Gross/Turner 51), ‘Atheist’ (Gross/Turner 57), and ‘Expelled’ (Gross/Turner 60). Each sheet was signed and dated ‘A. Palukst 1922’ by the artist in the plates. The original cardboard portfolio depicts on the front side a lithograph by the artist, which numbers the portfolio no. 12.
The prints depict some traces of wear and age. The single sheets depict marginal wear, they are partially browned and here and there stains are visible on some sheets. The portfolio is strongly worn. The dimensions of the sheets are each ca. 33.5 x 29.4 cm. (tm)
