George Barris was a close friend of Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962); his pictures of the actress are therefore very intimate and already achieved a record of 3,000 Euros at an international auction

In 1962 the American photographer George Harris took a series of actress Marilyn Monroe on the beach. This motif is also from this series, and was issued in 20026 as a Giglée in an edition of 200 copies by OneWest Publishing in Los Angeles Edition.
The giclée print in colors after a photograph from 1962 is numbered ’154/200’ and dated ‘5-16-2006’ on verso with black felt pen within the edition stamp and additionally stamped with copyright references. The sheet is in overall very good condition with tiny creases in the lower corners and occasional soft handling creases. The image measures 48.4 x 38.2 cm, the sheet 50.8 x 40.5 cm.
George Barris (b. 1922)
George Barris was born in New York City. His first camera was given to him by his brother Willie for his sixth birthday. Fascinated by the device, he soon learnt to operate it, always carrying one with him. He was an official army photographer in the Second World War from 1942 to 1945. He became a freelance photographer after the war. Travelling through the US and Canada, he took many photographs of events and celebrities, including Steve McQueen, Charlie Chaplin, Marlon Brando, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe.
