Jefferson Davis Autograph With Original Envelope
JEFFERSON DAVIS.
(May 1880’s), Card Signed, Jefferson Davis," 3" x 4.5," Choice Mint. This choice condition Jefferson Davis signed card has been protected for over a century in its original envelope. This envelope, postmarked in Mississippi, is included with this lot. Though there is no year date in the postmark, this type of stamped envelope was introduced in 1883 and 1884. Since Davis died in 1889, this card had to have been signed sometime between 1883 and 1889. At that time, the former military officer and ex-president of the Confederate States, was living in retirement, depending on the charity of friends to survive. The envelope is in nice condition, now lightly toned. An excellent Jefferson Davis autograph with an established provenance. (2 items).
