The discovery of the grave of Tutanchamun in the year 1922 through the British archeologist Howard Carter caused in the arts and culture a real egyptomania. Egyptian motives and Egyptian designs were therefore very popular in Art Déco. This is also recognizable in the presented mirror of the French designer Albert Cheuret. The wings of the stork create here the frame of the mirror. The decorative-ornamental feather inserts are vicarious as old-Egyptian presentations of the Horus falcon. They end in small for Cheuret typical volutes. The full plastic created stork was next to herons, cactuses and aloe plants a popular motive for Cheuret. He often combines his Bronze lamps, shells and mirrors with alabaster.
The mirror frame is in great condition with minor signs of age and use. The alabaster inset misses. The mirror measures 54 x 92 cm. The frame is below signed with ‘Albert Cheuret‘.
