Art Deco flacon and stopper with women’s torso in relief on the front side
This elegant Art Deco flacon with stopper was designed by Michael Powolny and produced in the 1920ies by Curt Schlevogt in Gablonz. The piece was made from exquisite lapis lazuli glass and its front-side shows the moulded décor of a women’s torso. The rectangular stopper is made of colorless glass.
The flacon is in a very good condition with only the most minimal signs of age and wear. Including the stopper, the piece has the overall dimensions of 19.1 x 8 x 4.6 cm.
Michael Powolny (1871 – 1954)
Austrian artist Michael Powolny was an important exponent of ceramic and glass art. He designed product series and individual decorative items and, in 1906, founded his own workshop. He was born in 1871, in the Austrian city of Judenburg. From 1891 to 1894, he attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Znaim and, seven years later, went to the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. In 1906, he founded the Wiener Keramik together with Bertold Löffler, which was taken over one year later by the famous Vienna Workshop. (nlu)
