George Nelson designed the Rolltop desk in 1964 for the Action Office series of the American furniture manufacturer Herman Miller. Miller produced multiple design classics by the commitment of the designer George Nelson and the Eames couple. Georg Nelson developed the design of the table based on a study which Herman Miller had commissioned in 1960. Nelson combined lectern and desk to make office work as functional as possible, without losing the aesthetic sight.

The desk has traces of age and wear. The frame shows rust stains and scratches. One side is heavily bumped and shows laminate losses. The dimensions are 87 x 146 x 80 cm (height x width x depth).

George Nelson (1908-1986)

George Nelson studied architecture at the Yale University from 1924-1928. With the help of a scholarship, he was able to study ate the American Academy in Rome until 1934. He worked as a designer for Herman Miller since 1946 and especially his furniture designs are counted amongst the most signifying ones.



Herman Miller Inc.

The company has started in 1905 under the name Star Furniture Company until it was taken over by Herman Miller and named thus. He won such names as George Nelson and Ray and Eames Charles for his company. Since 1957, Vitra has the rights to produce the Eames furniture for Herman Miller in Europe. (bed)
