The fruit bowl 'Tripalle' (Italian for three bowls) was made in 1984. The Italian designer Matteo Thun, co-founder of Memphis, used an unusual material combination of marble and granite. The contrast between white marble with smooth surface and the rough granite is what makes this design so captivating.
The bowl is 30.5 cm high and has a diameter of 37. It is in very good condition.
Matteo Thun (b. 1952)
The Italian architect and designer Matteo Thun operates under the motto ‘eco-non ego!’ (Eco - instead of ego). He was a student of Oskar Kokoschka at the Summer Academy of Salzburg. In 1975, he obtained the doctor’s degree in architecture at the University of Florence. From 1983 to 1996, he was a professor of design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In the early 1990s, Thun was appointed the Creative Director of ‘Swatch’. Since 1984, the Italian runs his own studio in Milan.
