A design classic par excellence
This Lot includes one of the most well-known design classics, the so-called āSwan Chairā by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen. Like his pendent the āEgg Chairā it was originally designed in 1958 for the lobby and lounge area of the Royal Hotel Copenhagen. It is distinguished by its organic design and today an be found in prestigious design collections worldwide.
The chair is in very good condition with minor signs of wear. Its dimensions are 81 x 75 x 65 cm.
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971)
Arne Jacobsen is one of the most important architects and designers of the 20th Century. He was trained to be a stonemason and later studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After his graduation he worked as an architect and designed his first pieces of furniture. Jacobsen worked on several projects and designed, for example, the town hall of Ć
rhus. During the Second World War Jacobson fled to Sweden. Upon his return he became professor at the Academy and continued to work as an architect and designer. He received several awards for his work. He is probably best-known for his furniture designs.
