Description
Carved Oak Smoker's Chair, 19th c., the upholstered arm rest opening to pipe and tobacco storage, over a pierced back with a relief figure over pipes and cigars, to an upholstered seat, on turned tapered carved legs, H.- 31 3/4 in., W.- 18 in., D.- 22 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Some minor old chips are noted the figure’s face, with a few other approximately ¼ inch losses seen scattered over back panel, most noticeably along the bottom edge and the right side. A slight vertical separation is noted through the center of the panel. Glue residue is visible at the back of the panel, on either side. Upholstery is now lacking to the seat, and threadbare to the arm rest. Feet are seen with a few nicks. The carving to the back of the back legs has been shaved flat. A unique example.
