Description

English Carved Birdseye Maple Desk, c. 1900, the stepped top with an inset gilt tooled leather top over three drawers, on double pedestals with three drawers each, on plinth bases, H.- 29 1/4 in., W.- 52 in., D.- 25 3/4 in.

Condition

Condition consistent with age and use. Leather top is observed with heavy scuffs and scratches, with a few areas of circular discoloration. Losses are seen to gilt edge decoration, especially along the front. A few nicks and scratches are noted to the stepped edge. A long horizontal separation is seen to the bottom half of the three top drawers, with a smaller separation noted to the middle “drawer” on the left pedestal. Left pedestal is seen with a faux three-drawer cupboard door. A ¼ inch loss to veneer is seen to the left side panel, underneath the molding. Base with expected wear. A handsome example.
