The Nias believe the spirits of the dead to have the power to influence the fate of the living. To appease those spirits they carve wooden statues in their likeness, called ‘adu zatua’.

Condition:
The figure is in fair condition with cracks and slight traces of abrasion. Partial restoration to the crown. The height, without the base, measures, 33.5 cm.
