Northern Hemisphere Projected from the North Pole

1714, "HEMISPHERE SEPTENTRIONAL LES TERRES ARCTIQUES..." by Guillaume Delisle, Paris, France, Choice Very Fine.
Plate size measuring a large 18.5" x 18.25", with an overall sheet size of 20.5" x 26.5". Beautifully hand-colored, with the outer margins and upper text surrounded in red. This is a very early depiction of the Northern Hemisphere from the viewpoint of the North Pole. The unexplored areas of the world (primarily the northern part of North America) have been left blank and California is shown as a semi-island. Other countries colored in blues, green, orange and light red, the circumference colored a light green. A nice display item.
