1746, "AMERICAE MAPPA GENERALIS SECUNDUM LEGITIMAS PROJECTIONIS..." by Homann Heirs, Nuremburg, Choice Extremely Fine.
Copper-engraved, hand-colored map of the Americas and the West Coast of Africa, Portugal, Spain, part of England and Scotland, Italy and the Mediterranean Sea, printed in Latin, and featuring a large cartouche with illustrations of two Native Americans and two Africans--both elegantly dressed in their native garb! 18" x 21" on sheet 21" x 24.5." The nicely colored cartouche also features two erupting volcanoes in the background, parrots, gold bars, palm trees, and more. Some light soiling, coloring on the cartouche a little weak, some expert marginal repairs on verso. Exceptional view of California, which fades into invisibility towards the North--since those territories were still unexplored!
