The bronze bas-relief by Jacob Wilhelm Fehrle (1884-1974) dates presumably from the 1950s. The high rectangular relief depicts Saint Christopher, who carries Jesus Christ over a river on his shoulders. Fehrle, which studied at the Art Academies in Berlin and Munich, was inspired, amongst others, by Aristide Maillol and Wilhelm Lehmbruck. However, he found his own artistic style, which is characterized mainly by overlong and slender figures.
The relief is monogrammed in the cast with ‘IWF’ lower right. It is in very good condition, showing some soldering marks at the suspension device on the reverse. The size of the relief is 16 x 9.5 cm. (cko)
