Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892)
The famous French bronze founder Ferdinand Barbedienne started his manufactory ‘F. Barbedienne’ in 1838 together with his partner Achille Collas. Collas had invented a machine which could produce scaled models of sculptures in bronze. At first, the foundry specialized in manufacturing models of antique statues, but later also worked with artists such as David D'Angers, Jean-Baptiste Clesinger and Antoine Louis Barye.
