GILBERT PATRICK HOSKINS (20TH CENTURY) - Brighton Beach, Gallipoli, 1915. 14.5 x 17.5 cm.

This rare eye-witness view captures the events of 22 and 23 May 1915 as seen from Gallipoli Beach looking south towards Brighton Beach.
Gilbert Patrick Hoskins joined the Australian 9th Infantry Battalion on 21 August 1914. He is described on his military papers as a theatrical manager, aged 36 years and ten months of age at the time of enlisting, with a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.
Hoskins was wounded at Gallipoli on 18 September 1915 after which he was taken to the hospital ship "Somali" anchored in Malta. As a result of his injuries, Hoskins was invalided to Australia, April 1916.
