A famous Greek representation of Venus, often copied in ancient Rome; variations of the sculpture can be seen in various museums in the world
This 19th century sculpture is modelled after an ancient Hellenistic period original in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Variations of the work can be found in the Vatican Museum and the Louvre in Paris. It depicts a life-size nude Venus, gracefully crouching on an amphora. The hair is elegantly tied up into a bow framing the fine Greek profile. The work features a very detaile, lifelike representation and fine execution. The figure rests on a naturalistic rectangular base made from one piece. An exquisite sculpture whose graceful appearance is underlined by the white matt marble surface.
