Typical pattern of a cemetery carpet
The central motif of the cemetery carpet, which is repeated ten times, depicts a heavily stylized mosque together with the weeping willow and the cypress (symbol of immortality). Tradition says that all family members have to weave on the carpet. The decedent is covered with it in the house of mourning. Depending on region and custom the cemetery carpet covers the grave on the day of the funeral. Wealthy people give the carpet to the mosque at the death of the head of a clan.
The carpet is in age-according very good condition. The black colors of the pattern are partially oxidized. The dimensions are 3.92 x 1.10 m.
