Widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Joni Mitchell is depicted here lightheartedly posing with her hands on her hips and a cigarette between her teeth. Known for bringing his subjects to life, Mark Seliger captures Mitchell’s effervescent personality in this photograph. The winner of 8 Grammy Awards, Joni Mitchell’s 1971 album “Blue” was rated the 30th best album ever made by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Executed in the second half of the 20th century, this gelatin silver print measures 17 ¾ x 14 inches (sight). Not examined out of frame; presumably excellent original condition.
Mark Seliger (American, b. 1959)
Mark Seliger is an editorial photographer who was born in Amarillo, Texas and raised in Houston. He currently lives and works in New York City, and is under contract with Conde Nast Publications, photographing for Vanity Fair and GQ. Seliger was the Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine from 1992-2002, for which he shot nearly 200 covers. Other current editorial clients include: Interview, British Vogue, Citizen K and Vogue Hommes. Some of his commercial clients include Showtime, Roca Wear, Sony, Capitol Records, Elizabeth Arden, Diesel and Tommy Hilfiger. His nonprofit work includes the “Vote or Die” Campaign, the AIDS organizations, Keep A Child Alive and Amfar, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s.
