By Jonathan Trumbull, Esquire, Captain-General and Commander in Chief of the state of Connecticut, letter orders Stephen Potten to be promoted as the Lieutenant of the Third Company or Trainband in the Second Regiment in the State of Connecticut on October 21, 1776, signed by his Honors Command George Myllys (Secretary) and Jonathan Trumbull in New Haven; has red wax seal stamp. Measures 8 in. high x 13 in. wide – overall dimensions 15.25 in. high x 20 in. wide.
