Description
Netsuke, ivory. Japan, Meiji or later
The God of Wealth Daikoku, one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japan, sits in in front of a sack which a rat (his animal symbol) is climbing. One hand is held to his ear in order to hear better. The punch-line of this piece: Daikoku´s eyes leap out as soon as you tilt him – they are long sticks and one asks himself, what was done so they do not fall out. Himotoshi on reverse, signature MITSU-YUKI on bottom. HEIGHT 3,8 CM
From an old Munich private collection
