Description
Netsuke, ivory. Japan, 19th cent.
A karako (boy in Chinese garment) seated on the ground, his hair also consistent with this interpretation. Very finely executed and vivid facial features in the style of scholars from old China, here in a juvenile version. The flat mask which he proudly holds in front of him bears a smiling expression, however, is feminine. Precisely worked details on the garment, stylistically corresponds to the Osaka masters’. Qualitatively very fine vory, himotoshi in the back, formerly mounted. HEIGHT 3,9 CM
From an old Munich collection
