Item Details
Description
Bronze. Khmer Kingdom, Lopburi, 12th to 13th cent.
A fine bronze figure from Lopburi, an area that is part of Thailand today and served as an outpost of the Khmer kingdom. It won its independence for a short time in the late 13th century. Uma is one of Shiva’s consorts and broadly identical to Parvati and also to Druga – she is regarded a “mother-goddessâ€. The bronze shows her standing, wearing typical Khmer sarong clothing and with fish-tail fold with decorative relief. A chain above the bare breasts and a cone-shaped crown. Only one upper arm survived, otherwise it is complete and with notably deep patina as well as signs of age. Mounted on a cubical base. HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 19,2 CM
