Item Details
Description
A wonderful Japanese cane of eagles and a snake. The ivory handle is 4 1/2" high and 1 1/4" at its widest. It depicts in superb detail, a mother eagle protecting her baby that is in a separate nest, from a large, marauding snake. They all have black jet eyes and are marvelously presented in the high quality typical of Japanese master carvers. There is 1/2" smooth silver collar on a dark-stained birch shaft the ends with a 1" replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 36" and the condition is very good. It is probably American, fashioned with an imported handle, ca 1880. It is a beautiful example of the type. Estimate: $1800-$2800.
