Description
A great sword cane curio with a Berber Warrior. The carved and painted wood handle is 2 3/4" high and 1 1/2" at its widest. It depicts a young, highly detailed Berber Warrior wearing a round silver hat with a long cloth drape for sun protection. He is smiling and his painted attire is nicely worn from years of handling. There is a 3/4" silver collar and two others below it at which point the cane unscrews to reveal a 20" pointed blade done in the early small sword configuration. The shaft is dark bamboo with six decorated 1/3" silver rings at each bamboo step. The piece ends with a 3" decorated silver ferrule that has an unusual iron tip protruding from it to protect the sliver from excessive wear. The overall length is 35 2/3" and the condition is very good. It is Moroccan, ca 1820, and was acquired by the consignors in 1996 in Marrakech, Morocco. It is part of the fine collection of George & Carol Milne. Estimate: $1000-$1500.
