Description
A very nice French fruit and flower picker cane. The light-colored hardwood handle is 7" high and 1 1/8" at its widest. It has a decorated brass cap at its top and the handle is embossed with a gold French maker’s logo (Adrien Dubois) that has a French patented designation. Further down the handle, there is a finger hole that operates the "picker", (scissors) at the bottom of the shaft. At the base of the handle, written on one side is "Cueille Fleur, A.D." (Pick Flowers) and on the opposite side: "Cueille Fruit, A.D." (Pick Fruit). At the base of the shaft is a removable brass ferrule that encases the picker/scissors. It slides off with a quarter turn to the left. The overall length is 30" and the condition is very good. It is ca 1905 and other examples of fruit and flower picker canes are shown on page 249, 25/16, and 25/17 of Dike’s Cane Curiosa. It is from the late Philip Hampton’s fine collection. Estimate: $1500-$2500.
