The A very nice cane with semi-nude maiden. The "L" ivory handle is 1 2/3" high and 4" long. It was made for a right-handed person and it is carved to a point at its short end. One side is fashioned with a reclining nude maiden with leg showing through a "window" in the ivory. Her long hair is thrown back over her raised arm, in a provocative pose. There is a 1/2" blown out silver collar on a smooth partridgewood shaft that ends with a 1" burnished brass ferrule. The overall length is 34 7/8" and the general condition is very good with some staining on the smooth side of the handle, well away from the carving. (The unobtrusive staining may have been caused by careless storing of the cane in a moist area for a protracted period.) It is perhaps Continental, ca 1885, and it is a very good example of the type.
