Description
A very nice wood cane of a man with a pipe, and his tongue protruding. Made of a single piece of debarked hardwood, it has a carved root handle that is about 3 1/2" high and 2 1/4" at its widest. It depicts an amusing character with his hat askew, squinty eyes, a flattened nose, and the stem of a pipe held tightly in his mouth, while his tongue is protruding. The shaft tapers down to a 7/8" horn ferrule that finishes the piece. The overall length is 38 1/4" and the condition is very good. It is English, ca 1900, and it was made to evoke mirth. Estimate: $750-$950.
