Impressive GEORGE WASHINGTON Framed Oil Painting
c. 1820-40s, George Washington (1732-1799) Painted Portrait, American after Charles Wilson Peale, Original Oil Painting on Canvas, Unsigned, Nicely Framed, Choice Very Fine.
This very early American Painting of George Washington is from the Charles Wilson Peale school. Charles Wilson Peale (1741-1827), was from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, an American painter best remembered for his portraits of the leading figures of the American Revolution and as the founder of the first major museum in the United States. This original Oil Painting on canvas measures approx. 22” x 27” housed within an early American carved and gilded classic decorative frame measuring 30” x 36”. The handsome portrait of George Washington shows him in his militia-style bold red fancy uniform and hat with his sword, its blade being partly visible at lower right. Washington is shown against a dark background, his name painted at the upper left, "G. Washington" in golden-yellow paint. In excellent overall quality with a few trivial light scuffs. A most handsome original George Washington Oil Painting on Canvas, perfectly ready for display.
