This original, antique (no date) African-American Folk Art Style Pictorial Sampler measures 16.5" x 17.5" and is housed in a 17.75" x 18.75” simple, inexpensive black painted wooden frame, without glass It is said to have come from an old Massachusetts farmhouse and the owner could not provide the history of this piece.

This rare African-American Folk Art style sampler is filled with interesting motifs including a "Freedom Key" a "heart" a "rope climbing monkey" "Black children playing ball" another group “playing with a monkey,” and several other interesting decorative elements including a wonderful "hunting scene" in the center. The initials "N M G" are above the hunting scene. The colors in this large size sampler are vibrant and the condition is very good overall. This Sampler is an excellent example and would be excellent for hanging on display in any collection of Black History and related Folk Art.
