EP-Unlisted, HB-Unlisted, Scott-Unlisted. Twelve Cents. John Gault made Silver Case āExperimentalā or āTrialā Piece. Plain Frame. Squared rim edges. 1861 Postage Stamp Issue Usage. Very Choice Near Mint.
This Unique John Gault made Silver Case EXPERIMENTAL-TRIAL Specimen has a Standard US Postage 1861 issue 12 Cents black printed George Washington Stamp. The mica is clear, unbroken and virtually flawless having a few wispy hairlines from friction. This example being the type as shown in Hodder-Bowers page 186, Fred Reed page 445, Arlie Slabaugh page 22. 24.2 mm round and as made. The Stamp is deep rich bold black, bright and attractive with its denomination perfectly centered within the face frame. The case is solid and fully sound, toned a natural rich coin-silver gray in color. Unique and a truly spectacular highlight for any Civil War Era Token or Encased Postage Stamp collection.
