Rare leaf book featuring an original leaf from the Book of Psalms (II Chronicles, the whole of Chapters 12 and 13 with parts of 11 and 14) in the Algonquin language, from the first Bible printed in America. John Eliot began preaching to the Indians in New England around 1646, and embarked on the project of translating the Bible into Algonquin. In 1660 a professional printer, Marmaduke Johnson, was sent from England specifically to print the Bible, and in partnership with Samuel Green finished the project within his three-year contract.
