DESCRIPTION: LS in Latin, one page, dated July 1824, untranslated letter of thanks to Sultan Mahmud II of Turkey, thanking him for his letter of condolence on the death of Leopold's father. Written entirely in gold in superb calligraphic hand with large handpainted coat of arms of Leopold at the top. Leopold II was the Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1824-59. Includes COA from R&R Enterprises Autograph Auctions. MEASUREMENTS: 26" x 21-1/2". CONDITION: Scattered toning and soilling, a few small holes along folds, heavy folds and some light wrinkling.
