Dolph Schayes 1955 Syracuse Nationals Road Jersey
Basketball's "Iron Man", Dolph Schayes didn't miss a single game from February 17, 1952 until December 26, 1961 (a streak of 706 games). During his Hall of Fame career Schayes was a 12-time All-Star, led the NBA in rebounding (16.4 rpg) during 1950-51 season, and led the NBA in free throw percentage three times. Although 6'8" tall, Schayes had a deadly, high-arcing outside set-shot. Defenders who attempted to deny him the outside shot were confronted by his powerful drive to the basket. These two offensive weapons served him well, even as the NBA was transitioning into a league of jump-shooters. Early in Schayes' career, he broke his right arm and played almost an entire season in a cast. Oddly, this injury became a seminal point in Schayes' development: he learned to shoot with his off-hand, making him especially difficult to guard. Upon retirement in 1964, Schayes held the NBA records for career scoring (19,249 points) and games played (1,059), and in 1996, was selected as one of the 50 Greatest NBA players of all-time. This Syracuse Nationals dureen road jersey was worn by the Hall of Famer during the Nationals 1955 Championship season. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Syracuse" in script style letters. The player number "4" appears on both the front and back of the jersey. All the letters and numbers are made of red embroidered stitch on a blue embroidered backing. There is blue/white trim around the neck, around the armholes, and down the sides of the jersey. A letter of provenance accompanies the jersey from Dolph Schayes himself. Along with this letter is a letter from Barry Taub, a close friend of Schayes for many years, who explains how he obtained the jersey directly from him.
