1961 Mantle and Maris Arthur Rickerby Original Photo Collection (12)
In 1961 award winning New York based photographer Arthur Rickerby covered the New York Yankees during the magical summer in which Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris chased the ghost of Babe Ruth. This group of 12 matted original prints are from the lens of Rickerby, all of which have never been published before. Photos include a terrific portrait of Maris, a smiling close up of Mantle, Mantle addressing the press, Maris smoking in the Yankees locker room fending off the press, a series of three in which Maris hits one of his 61 home runs with Mantle awaiting and then congratulating him at home plate, and more. Each vintage 11" by 14" photo is matted; several have the Rickerby Stamping on the back and "1961" written in pencil. A letter from Wanda Rickerby, Art's spouse and long time collaborator, accompanies this lot.
