Willis Reed Autographed 1970 Game Used Converse Sneakers
In the 1969-70 season, the Knicks won a franchise record 60 games and set a then-NBA record 18 game win streak. Reed played an important role in the Knick success, and in 1970 he became the first player in NBA history to be named the NBA All-Star Game MVP, the NBA regular season MVP, and the NBA Playoff MVP in the same season. That same year, he was named to the All-NBA first team and NBA All-Defensive first team, as well as being named as ABC's Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year. These Converse size 14 1/2 sneakers were given by Reed to the owner of a New York pub along with a similar pair belonging to Dave DeBusschere (offered as lot 299 in this sale). According to an accompanying letter of provenance from the pub owner, Reed warranted that both his and DeBusschere's sneakers were worn during the historic 1970 Championship Series. Reed's shoes show nice usage wear and are autographed by him. LOAs from MEARS and pub owner Thomas Rogers.
