1887 N28 ALLEN AND GINTER WORLD CHAMPIONS COMPLETE SET OF 50
The Allen and Ginter N28 series is one of the most popular 19th century issues. There are 50 cards in total with 10 baseball players making up the most valuable subset of any genre featured in the series. The lithographic images on these cards are beautifully rendered and are set off ideally against a white background. The keys are: Anson (HOF) TRIMMED (Less than 1/16" from top to bottom, no staining on back), Bennett (Front appears EX+ with light stain from album removal on back) , Caruthers (Front appears EX+/EM with extremely light stain from album removal on back), Clarkson (HOF) (Front appears EX+/EM with extremely light stain from album removal on back), Comiskey (HOF) (Front appears VG+ with extremely light stain from album removal on back), Glasscock TRIMMED (About 1/16" both top to bottom and side to side), Keefe (HOF) (Front appears EX+/EM with extremely light stain from album removal and a very small tear on back), Kelly (HOF) (Front appears EX+, pencil checklist marks and a shade darker stain from album removal on back), Mulvey (EX+ with clean back), Ward (HOF) (Front appears EX+ with light stain from album removal on back), John L. Sullivan (Front appears EX+ with extensive back damage from being glued in an album), Annie Oakley (Front appears EX with heavy stain from album removal on back, about 1/16" short top to bottom), Buffalo Bill Cody (Front appears EX+/EM with light stain from album removal on back). The vast majority of the remaining cards present EX/EX+ or better with about 10 having some degree of staining from album removal on the back. Of these, a couple are obviously trimmed with the rest measuring up or being just a shade off. The overall eye appeal of the card fronts far exceed what the technical grade would be.
