Pee Wee Reese 1954 Brooklyn Dodgers Road Jersey and Pants
The captain of the dominating Dodgers teams of the 1950's, scrappy Pee Wee Reese was a quiet force both on the field and in the clubhouse. An outstanding defensive player, he led the National League in putouts four times, double plays twice, and fielding percentage and assists once each. For almost a decade he and Jackie Robinson formed one of baseball's top double-play combinations. Reese led Brooklyn to seven pennants in his 16 seasons, his final year coming in Los Angeles, and never missed an inning of the seven World Series in which he participated. His most prestigious contribution to the sport was his early support of the first black Major League Baseball player, Jackie Robinson. His refusal to sign a petition that threatened a boycott if Robinson joined the Dodgers squashed a team rebellion. His comraderie with Robinson was a catalyst of integration in baseball. Inside the back collar of this jersey is a white felt label with "Reese" Stitched in red. Above this tag is the "MacGregor" manufacturer's size 42 label. Inside the front of the jersey is the "Set 1, 1954" tag. Across the front of the jersey is the team name "Dodgers" in felt script-style lettering. Reese's original player number "1" appears on the back. The accompanying pants have no identifying markings but match the jersey in all respects. The pants show considerable use with team repairs. Both the pants and jersey show ideal wear, retain excellent display quality, and appear to have no alterations of any kind. LOAs from MEARS (A10) and Grey Flannel.
