1969 COPO Camaro Tribute.
1969 COPO Camaro Tribute.
Item Details
Description
In 1969, Chevrolet offered a wide range of engines for the Camaro. COPO cars were normally utilized for dealer fleet orders or General Motors executive personnel. The internal “fleet” order overcame restrictions placed on Chevrolet by General Motors to only offer engines up to 400 cu in for the Camaro model. Since COPO was really intended for special paint and options on fleet vehicles, the 427 cu in COPO Camaro retained factory warranties and were street legal. The original COPO 427 Camaro came at the request of Fred Gibb, a Chevy dealer, who wanted a more powerful Camaro for drag racing. A minimum of 50 cars, were required to be built in order to meet classification requirements. A total of 69 units would eventually be produced. Offered at a price of $7269.00, the COPO was almost twice as expensive as the big block cast iron 396 block Camaro. The COPO started with a 396 SS body, F41 suspension was added, ZL2 cowl induction hood, heavy-duty brakes and front springs as well as a four-speed transmission completed the package. Offered is a 1969 COPO Camaro Tribute, built to replicate the original both cosmetically as well as mechanically. The engine is a correctly dated 1969 427 with correct 512 block, steel 427 crank, 7/16 rods, plus the #840 square port heads and #163 intake. The transmission has the correct #621 bellhousing and 1969 Muncie transmission. Finishing the drive train is a period correct 12 bolt 4.10 posi rear with multi leaf springs. A flawless “Hugger Orange” paint was applied to a correct X-44 bodied chassis. Every nut and bolt was refinished or replaced to standard specification. All chrome, stainless and weather stripping is new. The interior, including carpet, door panels, seat foams and covers, correct speedometer and tachometer were replaced in order to give the cabin an “as new” appearance. With original COPO Camaros selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars, this tribute offers an opportunity to own a brand new COPO 427 Camaro at a fraction of the cost of the original. This tribute COPO Camaro is truly a new car in every respect. -427 cu in engine-4 speed Muncie transmission-Hugger Orange paint-Torque Thrust wheels-Rotisserie restoration -Est. $50-70,000.00
