Description
A Roman bronze vessel in the form of a laureate male head, c. 1st - 2nd Century AD, perhaps an emperor or official, his features nicely rendered, the laureate with rosettes in between the leaves, the handle curved at the ends with swan-headed terminals and the hinge for a lid which is now lost at the back of the opening to the vessel. A rare and desirable piece with an attractive green-brown patina. H: 3 2/3 in (9.4cm). Ex English private collection formed between the 1960's – 1970's; Sotheby's London, 8 July 1993, Lot 194.
