Hispano-Philippine Painting on Board
19th century, Cebu, depicting Christ's descent from the cross, painted in polychrome enamels, inscribed in black on the bottom "Sra Liovocdo y Nues?". 18 1/2" x 12 1/2".
Condition: surface probably washed in gasoline, fading to painted surface, some areas with gesso showing through, wear to edges. Provenance: The Mr. & Mrs. Lester Andelson Collection Exhibition: The Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, February 9, 1981. Literature: Philippine Religious Imagery, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, 1963.
