Description
French, 19th century. Provincial oak wood two door armoire with rounded cornice top arched frieze with incised lattice motif and radiating flower above paneled doors with scrolled accents that open to shelved storage within. Shaped apron with carved shell motif, overall raised on squat cabriole legs with scrolled toes at front, block feet at back. Approximate height 93.5", width 62", depth 25.25".
Condition
Armoire is very stable & structurally sound. Only one shelf present. Interior catch is missing on lock. Due to this, the doors do not close firmly. No key present. Areas of separation to wood, commensurate with age. Scattered wood loss & chips to apron, however, not distracting. Gauge to right leg (see image 10), however, does not affect stability. Paneled sides show cracks due to shrinkage of wood (slightly visible in images 3 & 4). Scattered intentional holes to back of armoire. Intentional entertainment hole to back right (see image 2). Shrinkage to pediment. Scattered scratches throughout, commensurate with age & usage. Armoire has possibly been sealed with a clear finish to protect the wood.
