Description
FELICIANO CARVALLO (VENEZUELAN, B. 1920) FOLK ART PAINTING, oil on canvas, a vibrant scene featuring wild pigs and leopard/jaguar in an abstracted jungle setting. Signed and dated "Feliciano Carvallo / 1968" lower right. Two exhibition labels verso from the Nassau County Museum of Art, 1996 and 2002, both giving the title "The Jungle" to the painting. Housed in likely original frame with paint-decoration possibly by the artist. Circa 1968. 16" x 20" sight, 23" x 27" OA.
Provenance: Property from the estate of a Long Island private collector.
Catalogue Note: Feliciano Carvallo (b. 1920) is one of Venezuela's most recognized artists and has widely exhibited his work along with other artists of his generation from Central and South America. An indigenous artist, Carvallo is largely self-taught, and his works often blur the traditional line between reality and dream. The present example blurs that line as well and represents Carvallo working at the peak of his artistic powers.
