Wood-engraving by Pablo Picasso on cream Marais wove paper for Vollard's projected edition of HŽlne chez Archimde by AndrŽ Suars, illustrated with wood-engravings by Georges Aubert (1886-1961) after drawings by Pablo Picasso. Vollard abandoned this edition, but not before issuing the current print in a separate edition in the specialist typographical journal Arts et MŽtiers Graphiques. Image Size 8" X 11" - Page Size 9" X 12". A quarter of a century later, the book was eventually published in an edition of 240 copies by the Nouveau Cercle Parisien du Livre. This plate is therefore something of a rarity; it is also the most attractive of Picasso's Cubist illustrations for this work, and is reproduced on p. 96 of Nicholas Rauch, Les Peintres et le Livre.
